A two-minute tour of Grabster, on camera.

Me, a 1986 TV archive in French, and one word from its subtitles. How a grab works, where the word lands, and what the card looks like when I open Practice. Recorded on 7 October.

FIG. J1 — THE TOUR · FRENCH 2:12 · SOUND · RECORDED 7 OCT 2026

What’s in it

  1. Hi! What Grabster is for, in one sentence.
  2. The show: L’Art de la drague en 1986, a Swiss television archive on YouTube, in French.
  3. grabster.app, and the download.
  4. The grab. Hold ⌥Space over the subtitle, hover crois, release. The panel names the language and offers Save.
  5. Saved as croire, the dictionary form of the word on screen.
  6. Practice. Decks by level, New this week, and the card: the translation, an explanation in French, and a new example next to the line I grabbed it from.

A note on the date

I recorded this on 7 October, so it shows the app as it was then. Since 0.2.12 the translation appears the moment you release, and since 0.2.13 it appears at the notch rather than in a panel over the subtitle. The gesture — hold, hover, release — hasn’t changed, and neither has what the card becomes. The journal has both releases.
