0.2.15 — Drag across a sentence and read it in your language

While ⌥Space has the screen frozen, drag across the text. The sentences you selected (up to three) appear translated at the notch, and you tap the words you want on a card. Each card gets its own row under the sentence, and the sentence stays, so you can make more. Also new: connect Claude in Settings ▸ Assistants to turn a word list into a deck, Decks back in the sidebar (Smart, Levels, Yours), and redesigned Practice tiles. A drag sends the selected text to be translated; neither it nor the translation is stored.

Name a song and ask Claude to make a deck from it, or drop a photo of a menu, a sign or a textbook page into the chat. Claude makes the list and Grabster turns it into cards. Claude asks before it adds anything, and it never sees the words you already have.

A fourth tile on the activity strip, Words you remember: the words you’d still recognise three weeks from now, going by your own ratings. Also new: promo codes on the Plan screen, with the discounted price on the plan card. Fixed: the app menu follows your language, and the Russian translation was reviewed throughout.

Me, a 1986 TV archive in French, and one word from its subtitles: how a grab works, where the word lands, and what the card looks like when I open Practice. I recorded it on 7 October, so you’ll see the old Save panel from before 0.2.12, but the gesture hasn’t changed.

When you release ⌥Space, the translation shows at the top of the screen, under the notch, instead of in a panel over the subtitle. To go back to the panel, turn off Settings ▸ Lookups ▸ “Show lookups at the notch”. Also new: guided permissions in Settings, a Words list with every lookup and an Add card button, a one-screen Practice picker, and a Sync section that stays off until you turn it on.

The old panel appeared over the subtitle you had just read. The notch is the one spot on a MacBook screen that nothing is ever drawn under, and your eye already goes there for the clock. With the answer up there, nothing covers the show — and why the switch to go back exists.
